EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Big Ten Conference announced that senior Amy Jaeschke was named co-Big Ten Player of the Week after helping Northwestern remain unbeaten this week with a pair of wins over Western Kentucky on the road and against Chicago State Sunday. It is the fourth time in her career she has garnered the League's weekly accolade.
Jaeschke, a Naismith Trophy Preseason Watch List member, notched a triple double against Chicago Sunday afternoon with 30 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks. Jaeschke shot 86 percent from the field (12-of-14) and 5-of-5 from the charity stripe while playing all but one minute of the game. It is the first triple double in the Wildcat record books since Amber DeWall in 1998. It is also the first by a Big Ten player since Iowa's Kachine Alexander in a triple overtime win over Penn State on Feb. 1, 2009 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Ironically enough, Jaeschke shares this week's honor with Alexander.
Against Western Kentucky, Jaeschke tallied 13 points in just 18 minutes, shooting 60 percent from the field while gathering six rebounds. The senior finished the week shooting 75.0 percent (18-of-24) from the field and averaged 21.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.5 blocks per game.
Jaeschke and the Wildcats return to action in the Saint Mary's Hilton Classic in Moraga, Calif., on Friday, Nov. 26 when they face the host Gaels at 5 p.m. Northwestern then takes on BYU on Saturday at 4 p.m.
