EVANSTON, Ill. -- On the heels of a pair of road wins to open the 2010-11 season, the Northwestern men's basketball team opens the curtain on its home slate Friday evening as it takes on Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

The Wildcats are coming off a hard-fought 77-71 victory at Texas-Pan American Wednesday night. Drew Crawford paced NU with 22 points and eight rebounds while John Shurna contributed 20 points. Northwestern led by 11 with 4:23 remaining before the hosts battled back to within three with 1:23 to go. However, Michael Thompson scored on a tough runner with one second left on the shot clock and 25 on the game clock to help seal the win. The two road wins match NU's total from all of last season.

Shurna paces the Big Ten in the early stages of the season with an average of 25.5 points per game. He was named the Big Ten Player of the Week after posting 31 points and nine boards at Northern Illinois last Friday. Crawford's norm of 21.0 points per contest ranks fourth in the conference.

Scouting Arkansas-Pine Bluff
• The Golden Lions (0-2) suffered an 83-40 loss at Nebraska on Tuesday. Arkansas-Pine Bluff shot just 25.0 percent from the floor, while allowing the Huskers to shoot 63.0 percent.
• Daniel Broughton leads the team with an average of 12.0 points per game, while Savalac Townsend is close behind at 11.0 per contest. The Golden Lions return two starters and nine letterwinners from last year's team which went 18-16 overall and 14-4 in SWAC play.
• The Golden Lions won the opening-round game of the NCAA Tournament last season, defeating Winthrop, before falling to eventual national champion Duke in the first round.
• George Ivory has a 31-36 record in his fourth seaosn as the head coach at Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
