MADISON, Wis. -- Northwestern sophomore Audrey Huth placed 20th at the 2010 Big Ten Championships Sunday in Wisconsin, the highest individual finish by a Wildcat at the meet since Diana Hossfield placed 17th in 2003. Northwestern placed 10th in the team standings, with Michigan State claiming the conference championship.
NU finished with 251 team points, behind ninth-place Illinois (203) and ahead of 11th-place Purdue (261).
Huth clocked in at 20:52.7 for the 6K race, a personal-best time for her in her two-year Wildcat career. Last year at the Big Ten Championships, Huth crossed in 22:11.
Northwestern received a strong effort from freshman and second-place NU finisher Michelle Moriset, who bested her 6K time from the Pre-Nationals meet on Oct. 16 by 40 seconds in recording a 21:21.8. Moriset placed 40th overall.
Molly Waterhouse was the third Wildcat finisher in 21:46 while junior Abby Tracy (22:09) and freshman Julia Buford (22:11) checked in at 75th and 76th overall, respectively. Each of their times represented considerable improvements on their only other 6K races in 2010.
Lauren Neuschel (22:16.9), Ann Powers (22:43.3) and Sophie Ewald (23:12.4) rounded out the Northwestern contingent at the event.
In less than two weeks on Saturday, Nov. 13, head coach April Likhite and her team will venture to the NCAA Midwest Regional meet hosted by Bradley.
