Vote For Katrina As The Lacrosse Magazine Player of the Year!
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Former Northwestern All-American and Tewaaraton Trophy finalist Katrina Dowd is one of four nominees for the Lacrosse Magazine 2010 Women's Lacrosse Player of the Year. Fans are encouraged to vote for their choice, with the fan voting serving as one component of the selection process.
This past spring, Dowd capped off one of the most productive careers in Northwestern history, recording 110 points on 77 goals and 33 assists. The IWLCA Attacker of the Year and a first team All-American selection, Dowd was named the American Lacrosse Conference Player of the Year and Tournament MVP and was named a finalist for both the Tewaaraton Award and Honda Lacrosse Award. Northwestern's Female Athlete of the Year and a Big Ten Suzy Favor Award nominee, Dowd ranked second nationally in points, goals and points per game (5.24) while sitting fourth in goals per game (3.67). Her 77 goals is the second-highest single-season total in program history while her 110 points ranks fourth and her 33 assists rank seventh among the season lists.
Dowd finished her Northwestern career as one of the top all-around players in Wildcat history, finishing sixth all-time with 267 career points. She ranks fourth in Wildcat history in goals (209) and is tied for ninth in assists (58) while sitting eighth in program history in ground balls (113), caused turnovers (57) and draw controls (83). A two-time IWLCA first team All-American (2009, 2010), Dowd became the NCAA tournament career leader in goals (45) while placing fourth in points (52), en route to three NCAA all-tournament team selections, including the MVP in 2009.
Dowd faces some stiff competition for the award in Maryland's Caitlyn McFadden, Adelphi's Caitlin Fitzpatrick and former Towson All-American Hillary Fratzke, who now wears the purple in her first season as a Northwestern assistant coach. Lacrosse Magazine will announce its year-end superlatives in the December issue, with part of the selection criteria being based off fan voting.
