GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Senior David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) made a final-round charge worthy of golf's greats Sunday at the UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate at Forest Oaks Country Club, playing his final four holes in 5-under par to tie for medalist honors at 14-under 202, a total which ties Luke Donald's school record 54-hole mark set in 2001.

As a team, Northwestern entered the final round in seventh place, meaning six teams teed off after the Wildcats and behind Lipsky. The senior was tied for first with four other golfers at 8-under par 136 following Saturday's action, and he found himself five strokes off the lead Sunday when he made the turn following an even-par front nine.

Lipsky began the back nine with a birdie at the 370-yard, par-4 10th hole before another string of four-straight pars left him at 9-under for the tournament with four holes to play. That is the point where Lipsky went supersonic. Using strong iron play to attack pin positions and a hot putter, Lipsky first birdied the 454-yard par 4 15th before another birdie at the 352-yard 16th. His third-consecutive birdie on the long 223-yard par 3 17th set the stage for a tremendous final hole.

On the 578-yard par 5 18th, Lipsky bombed his way onto the green in two, then rolled home a 30-foot putt for eagle that vaulted him over Auburn's Blayne Barber and gave him a one-stroke lead in the clubhouse. Barber would later birdie No. 16 as well to end up tied with Lipsky for medalist honors.

The final scoreboard at the UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate shows David Lipsky tied for the lead.

Lipsky's final-round 6-under 66 followed totals of 4-under 68 in each of the first two rounds of the tournament. It broke his previous career-best score of 67, a number he had reached in each of his first three seasons as a Wildcat. The victory is the third of Lipsky's career after he also captured the 2010 Big Ten individual championship and the 2008 Notre Dame Spring Invitational.

Lipsky's 14-under 202 total matches Luke Donald's 54-hole tournament score record set at the 2001 U.S. Collegiate Championships, where the current No. 8 ranked player in the world used a final-round 7-under 65 to win that tourney. Lipsky's 66 ties for the 13th best single-round total score in school history. Lipsky now has shot even-par or better in each of his last five rounds this year.

Strengthened by Lipsky's back-nine fireworks, No. 32 Northwestern as a team jumped two spots in the final round to finish in fifth place despite a rough day for the rest of the squad which saw no other 'Cat break par. The Wildcats' 11-under 853 (285-282-286) gave them a 10-stroke cushion over sixth-place No. 36 Charlotte and was 10 shots off the pace of fourth-place No. 30 Michigan.

Senior Josh Dupont (Poway, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) coupled four bogeys with four birdies in his Sunday round, including a birdie on the final par-5 18th, to fire an even-par 72 for the team and finish in 36th place with a 54-hole total of 2-over 218 (75-71-72).

Junior Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School) recorded his third top-20 finish of the year with a 1-under 215 (68-72-75) in the tournament, good for 19th place. Chun shot a 2-over 38 on the front side in the final round before making birdies on both Nos. 10 and 11 to get back to even par. Three bogeys the rest of the way, however, left him at 3-over 75 for his final 18 holes.

Junior Sam Chien (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel) recovered from a bogey on No. 3 Sunday morning to birdie both of the front side's par 5 holes. Two bogeys on the back nine lifted him out of the red numbers on the day, however, and left him at 1-over 73 in the final round and 4-over 220 (75-72-73) in the Collegiate, good for 45th place.

Sophomore Nick Losole (Scottsdale, Ariz./Scottsdale Notre Dame) saw back-to-back double bogeys on holes No. 12 and 13 contribute to a final-round 6-over 78. He concluded the tournament in 58th place at 7-over 223 (74-71-78).

Northwestern concludes its fall schedule Nov. 8-10 at the The Gifford CordeValle Collegiate in San Martin, Calif.
