WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Northwestern posted a 21-over 309 over the opening 18 holes of the 2010 Landfall Tradition, sitting in a three-way tie with Florida State and UT-Chattanooga heading into Saturday's second round. Sophomore Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows), fresh off her individual title at the Lady Northern last week, once again led the Northwestern scorecard with a 3-over 75 after recording pars on the final seven holes of the afternoon. She is tied with eight other golfers in 27th-place, five strokes back of the tournament leaders.
Freshman Devon Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) is two strokes back of Weaver, shooting a 5-over 77 in round one. She holds a one-shot lead on junior Alex Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central), who posted a 6-over 78 in round one. Anne Ormson (Granger, Ind./St. Joseph's) and Rebecca Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) also remain in the mix for Northwestern, shooting a 7-over 79 and an 8-over 80, respectively.
Competing against its toughest competition of the season, Northwestern will look to shake off the slow start Saturday. The Wildcats look to break free of its 13th-place tie with the Seminoles and Mocs, trailing host UNC-Wilmington and Big Ten rival Ohio State by just two strokes after 18 holes. Northwestern is also well within striking distance of the top-10, sitting four shots back of both Virginia and Wake Forest, who are tied for ninth, and eighth-place Michigan State.
Duke and Texas sit atop the team leaderboard after Friday's first round, posting a 3-over 291. The duo leads third-place North Carolina by two strokes, with UCLA three shots back in fourth place. South Carolina and Notre Dame are tied for fifth at 11-over 299, followed by North Carolina State in seventh.
Northwestern will be teamed up with Florida State and UT-Chattanooga in the round two pairings and will once again start its day from the 10th tee. Ormson will be the first Wildcat to tee off at 8:20 a.m. CT, with the others following in 10-minute increments until Weaver's 9:00 a.m. CT tee time.
