EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern held the inaugural Friday Night Hoops at SPAC this evening, with both the men's and women's squads displaying a perfect balance of still, finesse, personality and humor.
The evening began with an entertaining inter-squad scrimmage that mixed an equal number of men's and women's members, followed by introductions by both teams. Fans were then invited to participate in an interactive game of knockout before being treated to intense competitions on both sides. The women dueled it out in a 3-point shooting contest while the men put on a performance above the rim, entertaining the crowd with several creative dunks, which were judged by the women's team. Senior Mike Capocci reigned supreme in the air, while senior Beth Marshall and freshman Meghan McKeown tied in the battle for the long-distance crown.
Both the Northwestern men's and women's teams are coming off postseason appearances last season, with the women advancing to the third round of the WNIT while the men participated in the NIT for the second straight year. Each squad returns four starters from a year ago.
The Wildcat women host UW-Platteville in an exhibition game Oct. 31, while the men welcome Robert Morris (Ill.) for a tune-up contest Nov. 4.
Season tickets can be purchased by calling 888-GO-PURPLE.
