EVANSTON, Ill. -- USA Field Hockey announced last week the coaching staff assignments for its junior national programs for the 2010-11 competitive cycle, naming NU head coach Tracey Fuchs an assistant on the U-17 squad and Wildcat associate head coach Carla Tagliente the head coach of the U-19 program.
By remaining with the U-19 group for the second-straight year, Tagliente will have the opportunity to coach Northwestern freshman Nikki Parsley after Parsley earned a spot on the team's roster in July. The U-19's have a set of international friendly matches in Chile scheduled for next spring.
After spending summer 2010 as an assistant on the senior national squad, Fuchs shifts gears to work with the U-17 group in 2010-11, which will include a competitive tour of Holland in 2011.
"Carla and I always look forward to the opportunity to work with our junior national teams during the college offseasons," Fuchs said. "We love being able to work with and get to know the players that are going to be the future of field hockey in the U.S. both collegiately and at the national team level."
Both programs also will have the opportunity to fulfill a weekend training camp at the Olympic Training Center in San Diego prior to their international tours, giving them the chance to emulate the Women's National Team program as they develop.
Fuchs and Tagliente, both of whom enjoyed successful playing careers with the U.S. senior national team, each have been active at the national level during their coaching careers. Fuchs previously led the U.S. to a gold medal at the Pan American Junior Championships in 2005 and was an assistant with the U-17 team that won the bronze at the 2010 Youth Pan American Cup in Uruguay. Tagliente twice traveled with the U-16 team during competitive tours of Holland and in 2010 coached the U-19 squad through its four-game series in Argentina.
