GLENVIEW, Ill. -- Monday's final round at the 2010 Windon Memorial Classic at North Shore Country Club saw an ace from one competitor, a 9-under par team charge from Ohio State and a 40-foot par putt on No. 18 to secure a one-stroke victory for Michigan on an exciting day of golf at Northwestern's home tournament.

The Wildcats finished in seventh position, two shots in front of eighth-place Coastal Carolina and three shots in back of a two-way tie for fifth between Indiana and Purdue. Michigan won the tournament by one stroke over Ohio State when its final player, 2010 U.S. Public Links champion Lion Kim, scrambled for a miraculous par on No. 18. After driving into the trees, he chipped out into the rough, hit a wedge to 40 feet and drained the putt to give the Wolverines the victory. Kim won medalist honors with a 6-under 207 (69-71-67).

Ohio State's Bo Hoag shot the low round of the tournament with a final-round 7-under 64, which is one stroke shy of the Windon Memorial tournament record 8-under 63 fired by Jorge Campillo at North Shore CC in the final round of 2008. He placed second overall at 4-under 209. The Boilermakers notched the tournament's lone hole-in-one when Erich Johnston aced the 189-yard par-3 16th hole.

Northwestern senior David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) was the top Wildcat with a sixth-place finish at 1-under 212 (72-71-69) for the tournament. Lipsky carded par on each of his first five holes Monday before back-to-back birdies at Nos. 6 and 7. A bogey on the monstrous 231-yard par-3 eighth gave him a 1-under 34 on the front before eight pars and a birdie at No. 15 resulted in his 2-under 69 for the day. He came inches from an even better total with birdie putts that nearly fell at Nos. 16 and 17.

Junior Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School) found himself in black numbers after back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 4 and 5 before getting one shot back with a birdie at No. 7. A third bogey at No. 9 left him at 2-over 37 on the front side. Back-to-back birdies on holes 15 and 16 got Chun back to 1-over on the day, but a bogey on the final hole left Chun with a 2-over 73 Monday and a 6-over 219 (71-75-73) for the tournament, good for 24th overall.

Sophomore Nick Losole (Scottsdale, Ariz./Scottsdale) also was 24th as an individual following a final-round 5-over 76. He went out in 1-over 36, coupling a double bogey with a birdie on the front side. He struggled on the way in, however, surrounding a birdie on the par-5 15th with bogeys on Nos. 14, 16, 17 and 18 to give him a 54-hole total of 6-over 219 (71-72-76).

Freshman Jack Perry (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara) opened his final round with a trio of birdies and a trio of bogeys on the front nine alone, carding an even-par 35. After a bogey at No. 12, Perry got aggressive and made eagle at the 515-yard par-5 15th hole. Now standing under par, Perry ran into trouble at the 428-yard par-4 17th. Finding himself in a greenside bunker after three strokes, he pitched out to within 10 feet but 3-putted for a triple bogey to finish at 2-over 73. Perry placed 69th in the individual standings with a 16-over 229 (75-81-73).

Junior Sam Chien (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel) also finished up at 16-over 229 (77-73-79) after a rough day Monday. Three double bogeys contributed to an 8-over 79 in the final round, leaving him in 69th place.

Freshman Brad Shigezawa (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou Academy), anchoring a contingent of three Wildcats who played individually and teed off the back nine, survived a rough stretch of four-straight bogeys on the back nine to play the remaining holes in 1-over par, finishing with a 5-over 76. He was 24th overall at 6-over 219 (72-71-76).

Coming off his 1-under 70 in the second round Sunday, senior Josh Dupont (Poway, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) also led the way for NU's three individuals on Monday. Dupont was blistering to start, moving to 3-under after five holes, but consecutive bogeys on 17 and 18 brought him back to 1-under 35 for the nine. He was even par on the front side until a double bogey on the 231-yard par-3 eighth lifted him back over par for a final round 1-over 72. Dupont placed 36th as an individual, shaking off an opening round 78 to fire a 7-over 220 (78-71-72).

Senior Ravi Patel (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) came in 57th at 13-over 226 (74-72-80). His Monday round included one birdie but eight bogeys and one double bogey.

Northwestern now has nearly a month break before returning to action Oct. 23-24 at the UNC-Greensboro Bridgestone Golf Collegiate in Greensboro, N.C.
