AVCA Division I Top-25 Coaches Poll - September 27
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Fresh off a pair of Big Ten victories over the weekend and holding the program's best record since a 14-1 start in 1987, Northwestern finds itself at 25th in the latest AVCA Division I Coaches Top-25 poll, released today. It marks the first time Northwestern has been nationally ranked since the 1987 season.
After receiving votes in each of the past two weeks, the Wildcats received 60 votes to check in at 25th in the September 27th edition of the poll. They are one of five Big Ten schools to be listed among the top-25, joining Penn State (No. 4), Illinois (No. 7), Minnesota (No. 17) and Michigan (No. 19). Ohio State and Purdue were also listed among teams receiving votes for the week.
Northwestern is 12-1 on the year, its best start since beginning the 1987 season with a 14-1 mark. The Wildcats are 2-0 in Big Ten play, defeating Indiana 3-1 Friday night before outlasting Purdue 3-2 on Saturday at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The Wildcats embark on their first Big Ten road trip this weekend, playing at Wisconsin Friday night before taking on in-state rival Illinois Saturday.
