ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Competing against one of its most challenging fields of the fall season, Northwestern held its own Friday at the Branch Law Firm Dick McGuire Invitational, shooting a 25-over 609 through the opening two rounds and maintains sole possession of eighth-place heading into Sunday's finale.

A pair of Wildcats stepped up in the desert, beginning with Alex Lederhausen's (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) season-best even-par 73 through the opening 18 holes. That effort was followed by a 1-over 74 from Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) as the duo ended the day tied atop the Northwestern scorecard at 3-over 149, good enough for a tie for 13th overall among the individual standings.

Devon Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic), coming off a third-place finish at last weekend's Wolverine Invitational, continued to be impressive in just her second collegiate event, posting a 7-over 153 and checks in at third among the Northwestern competitors. Anne Ormson (Granger, Ind./St. Anthony's) sits at 13-over 159 in her first tournament of the season while Rebecca Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) is right behind with a 15-over 161.

As was the case last weekend, Northwestern finds itself among a group of schools jostling for position. The Wildcats sit three shots back of seventh-place UNLV (22-over 606) and a stroke ahead of 26th-ranked TCU (26-over 610). Host New Mexico (29-over 613) and BYU (30-over 614) also remain on the Wildcats' heels heading into Sunday's final round.

Big Ten rival Ohio State sits in the lead after 36 holes with a 3-over 587, four shots ahead of San Diego State (7-over 591) and five strokes better than Oregon (8-over 592). Denver (10-over 594), UC Davis (11-over 595) and Colorado (12-over 596) round out the jumbled top six which battled each other for position all day.

The Wildcats head back out on the course at 9 a.m. CT Saturday morning, looking to improve on last season's eighth-place finish at the Dick McGuire Invitational. Live scoring of the final 18 holes are available at Golfstat.com.
