EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern returns to the desert Southwest this weekend, competing in the 31st annual Branch Law Firm Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. The Wildcats will compete against a challenging 16-team field, which includes 10 clubs ranked among the nation's top-50.
Northwestern, ranked 37th in this week's Golfweek Sagarin ratings, looks to build off last weekend's third-place tie at the Wolverine Invitational, which saw freshman Devon Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) also finish tied for third in her collegiate debut. Sophomore Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) also notched a top-10 finish tying for seventh at the Wolverine Invitational. Weaver returns to the course in Albuquerque in which she posted the best finish of her Northwestern career, placing fifth at last year's Dick McGuire Invitational after posting a 4-under 215.
Alex Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) played well on the University of New Mexico Championship Course last year, finishing tied for 13th after shooting an even-par 219. Senior Rebecca Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) and sophomore Anne Ormson (Granger, Ind,/St. Anthony's) will round out the Northwestern scorecard.
Northwestern performed well at the 2009 Dick McGuire, finishing tied for seventh against an extremely competitive field. This year's installment will be no different as 10 teams are ranked among the top-50 in the weekly Golfweek Sagarin rankings, with Denver (No. 16), host New Mexico (No. 20), Ohio State (No. 24) and TCU (No. 26) sitting among the top-30. UC Davis (No. 31), Oregon (No. 34) and UNLV (No. 38) join the Wildcats in the 30's with San Diego State (No. 42), Georgia State (No. 47) and UC Irvine (No. 48) rounding out the top-50. The Wildcats will also go head-to-head with a pair of Big Ten opponents in the Buckeyes and Indiana.
Play gets underway at 9 a.m. CT Friday morning with the first and second rounds being played. Saturday's final 18 holes gets underway at 7 a.m. CT, with live scoring of the weekend's play available at Golfstat.com.
