EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern Director of Athletics and Recreation Jim Phillips has announced the hiring of Kurt Hasenbalg as the Wildcats' assistant athletic director for ticket sales and services.

Hasenbalg will head up the newly created out-bound ticketing department at Northwestern, which was created to support the Wildcats' new marketing effort.

"To be certain, we are extremely excited about the addition of Kurt and this new position at Northwestern," said Phillips. "Exciting things are happening at Northwestern, with our new emphasis as Chicago's Big Ten team, and are looking forward to great things in the near future. Kurt brings with him extensive experience working with both ticketing and customers in the Chicago market, and we feel he will be a terrific addition to the Wildcat family."

"We're extremely excited to bring Kurt on board to head up this new venture at Northwestern," said Mike Polisky, Northwestern's senior associate athletic director for external affairs. "He brings an incredible track record with the White Sox organization and a tremendous amount of experience and insight. We fully expect Kurt will thrive in this role and help us fill all Northwestern venues in the future."

Prior to joining the Northwestern staff, Hasenbalg spent six years in the Chicago White Sox organization, serving most recently as the manager of the club's group and party area sales team. There he was responsible for all aspects of the White Sox's group sales efforts, including implementation of a handful of new ticket promotions while increasing the existing ticketing programs. He was recognized in 2006 with Major League Baseball's Best New Marketing Concept after spearheading the effort to sell the Gate 1 area at U.S. Cellular Field as a new party area.

Hasenbalg also spent time working with the Kane County Cougars and Ultimate Race Vacations prior to joining the White Sox staff. He received his bachelors degree in visual communication design from Purdue in 1996 before attaining his MBA in marketing from Butler in 2001.

"I am thrilled to become a part of Northwestern University Athletics," said Hasenbalg. "It is an unbelievably exciting honor to start a ticket sales force from the ground up, and my sincere thanks to Jim Phillips and Mike Polisky for providing me the opportunity to lead this new venture. We look forward to reaching out and connecting with our season ticket holders, group leaders and casual fans - ultimately making their Northwestern game day experience even better."
