Eric Chun Bows Out of U.S. Amateur in Round of 64

Aug. 26, 2010

UNIVERSITY PARK, Wash. -- Junior Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School) fell to Argentina native Emiliano Grillo, 4-and-2, in his round of 64 match at the 2010 United States Amateur Championship Wednesday at Chambers Bay.

Grillo, who advanced to play Chun after a 16-way playoff for the final six match play slots, jumped out to an early 3-up lead through four holes. Chun immediately made birdie at the short 320-yard par-4 fifth before another birdie at the lengthy 607-yard par-5 eighth drew him back to within one hole at the turn.

Chun carded another birdie at No. 10 to make the match all-square before Grillo seized the momentum back with wins at Nos. 11, 12 and 14. He closed the match out with a birdie at No. 16 to defeat Chun.

Chun and the Wildcats now will focus on preparing for the 2010-11 season, beginning Sept. 11-12 at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Zionsville, Ind.
