EVANSTON, Ill. -- Five former Wildcat All-Americans have been named to the 2010-11 U.S. senior women's lacrosse team. Sarah Albrecht (2006), Kristen Kjellman (2007) and Lindsey Munday (2006) are returning members to the national team while 2010 graduates Katrina Dowd and Danielle Spencer will join the roster for the upcoming season.
The quintet brings with them an impressive resume, as during their careers in Evanston, the group combined for 919 goals and 410 assists while racking up 12 IWLCA All-American accolades. Kjellman won a pair of Tewaaraton Trophies (2006, 2007), with Dowd being named a finalist in 2010, and the group played a major role in helping the Wildcats to five-straight NCAA titles from 2005-09.
The five Northwestern selections is tied with North Carolina as the most of any school, with James Madison and Maryland each placing four players on the national team. In addition, national team member Acacia Walker served as a Northwestern assistant coach from 2006-08 and two-time Tewaaraton Trophy winner Hannah Nielsen is a member of the Australian national team.
The national team was selected following three days of tryouts at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County this past weekend. Coached by Georgetown head man Ricky Fried, the team will train and compete in preparation for the 2013 Federation of International Lacrosse World Cup and will seek to defend its gold medal won at the 2009 World Cup in Prague.
