Complete U.S. Junior National Team selections
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Just a few short weeks before arriving in Evanston for the start of her Northwestern career, incoming freshman Nikki Parsley (Milford, Del./Milford) was named on Friday to the United States U-19 National field hockey team. Parsley, a forward, was one of 18 players chosen for the squad, which is slated for international competition in Chile in 2011.
Selections for the U-19 team came at the conclusion of a grueling four-day Junior National Camp hosted by the University of Maryland.
"We're very proud of Nikki for her selection and excited for the opportunities that lie ahead of her," said Northwestern second-year head coach Tracey Fuchs, who is currently serving as an assistant coach of the U.S. senior national team. "Playing against the best players in her age group in the country as well as around the world is obviously going to help her sharpen her game that much faster."
A four-year starter at Milford High School, Parsley scored a school-record 64 goals during her career. She also enjoyed plenty of success on the club level as her squad won both the National Field Hockey Festival and the National Indoor Tournament.
Parsley also was an outstanding student, graduating with a 4.0 GPA.
Parsley and her Wildcat teammates will be in Evanston to begin fall camp in early August before opening the 2010 season at Syracuse on Friday, Aug. 27.
