The 2009-10 athletic year at Northwestern University was one to remember. Filled with memorable wins, honors and championships, there was much to be celebrated this past year in Evanston. EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern did Senior Day in Senior-style on Sunday, May 9, at Sharon J. Drysdale Field, run-ruling Wisconsin, 11-3 (6), on the strength of four home runs -- all hit by members of the 2010 senior class.
Senior Nicole Pauly (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) went 3-for-4 with a grand slam and a solo home run while classmate Kelly Dyer (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) added a two-run blast and senior Emily Haug (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias) ended the game with a three-run sixth-inning shot.
Pauly began the festivities with a first-inning grand slam to give the Wildcats an immediate 4-0 lead in the first inning before kicking off the fifth with a solo shot to make NU's advantage 5-3. It was the final home run of her career, giving her 53 to rank third all-time in program history.
Dyer clubbed her own fifth-inning blast in the game, a two-run shot that made it a 7-3 contest and gave her 23 home runs in her four-year career. Later on, in the bottom of the sixth with the score 8-3, Haug concluded Senior Day in Senior-style, blasting a three-run home run to left-center to end the game early, 11-3. Haug's shot was her 11th of the year and the 14th of her career.
