EVANSTON, Ill. - Standout prep athletes throughout the Chicagoland area are numerous, but Northwestern baseball recruit Nick Linne was recently named the best by the Chicago Sun-Times. A three-sport standout at Naperville Central, Linne was honored as the Sun-Times Male Athlete of the Year for 2009-10 and will join the Wildcats on the diamond for the 2011 season.
An infielder, he batted .345 with 20 RBI during his senior season while helping guide the Redhawks to a stellar 38-4 record and the Illinois Class 4A state championship.
Linne was also an outstanding quarterback on Naperville Central's football team and had overtures from Division I programs on the gridiron as well before ultimately choosing to play baseball for the Wildcats.
He also was a two-year starter at shooting guard and small forward on the Redhawks' basketball team.
