EVANSTON, Ill. -- Mike Wolf, assistant athletics director for athletic communications at Northwestern University and a member of Academic All-America Committee since 1987, will be honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as the recipient of the 2010 Lester Jordan Award. The award has been presented annually since 1994 to an individual (or company) for exemplary service to the CoSIDA's Academic All-America award program and program and the promotion of the ideals of being a student-athlete.
Wolf, one of the Committee's longest-tenured active members, is set to receive the award at the CoSIDA Hall of Fame Gala on July 6 that is being held in conjunction with the organization's annual Workshop in San Francisco, Calif. He began his tenure on the Committee in '87 as a district coordinator and has served as a national coordinator since 1996. Currently, he is the national coordinator for university division programs in football and men's at-large.
A 1984 graduate of Quincy University in Quincy, Ill., with a bachelor of science degree in business management and administration, Wolf served as the student sports information director at Quincy while attending school. Following graduation, he assumed the post of assistant athletic director for media relations and sports information director at Washington University in St. Louis, and held that post from 1984-98.
After 14 years at Washington University, he moved to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and served as the assistant athletics director external affairs and director of media relations from 1998-2001. In `01, he was named assistant athletic director for athletic communications at Northwestern.
Wolf has earned 88 CoSIDA publication award citations that have included 48 "Best in the Nation Honors." A member of CoSIDA since 1983, he also has served on the Publications and Certification Committee (1986-87).
Wolf has served on the United States Olympic Committee's (USOC) media relations' staffs at several national and international events. In 1995, he was selected as a press officer for the Pan American Games in Mar del Plata, Argentina where he worked with the men's and women's tennis teams. In '96, he performed that same role for the men's and women's tennis teams at the Olympic Games in Atlanta. He also served as a USOC press officer and venue media coordinator at the 1994 U.S. Olympic Festival In St. Louis.
Wolf has been part of media relations staffs at several NCAA Championship events, including the '94 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Final Four in Charlotte, N.C.
In January 2003, he was inducted into Washington University's Sports Hall of Fame.
Wolf also will be receiving a 25-Year Award at CoSIDA's Annual Awards Luncheon on July 7.
