EVANSTON, Ill. - The YWCA Evanston/North Shore is hosting its 11th annual "Ricky Byrdsong Memorial Race Against Hate" at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, June 20. The event is dedicated to the honor of former Northwestern men's basketball coach Ricky Byrdsong, who was tragically killed in a hate crime in his suburban Chicago neighborhood on July 2, 1999.
The event consists of a 10K run, followed by a 5K run/walk and then a youth mile. The course begins at Long Field, on the corner of Lincoln Street and Sheridan Road in Evanston. The course travels south along Sheridan Road to Greenwood Avenue, and back.
Online pre-registration for the event has closed. However, participants can still pre-register and pick up their packets in person at the following locations:
Wednesday, June 16 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at Whole Foods Market, 1640 Chicago Avenue, Evanston
Thursday, June 17 from 4-8 p.m. at Murphy's Fit, 513 Dempster, Evanston
Friday, June 18 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Murphy's Fit, 513 Dempster, Evanston
Saturday, June 19, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at YWCA Evanston/North Shore, 1215 Church Street, Evanston
Pre-registration is $29 for the run/walk and $10 for the youth mile. Race day registration begins at 6:15 a.m. at Long Field and is $39 for the run/walk and $15 for the youth mile.
