Lindenschmidt Named ESPN the Magazine First Team Academic All-District

May 20, 2010

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Junior Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) has been named to the ESPN the Magazine District V Academic All-District first team, announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Lindenschmidt was one of 11 student-athletes selected in the at-large category, marking the first women's golfer in program history to receive the honor.

Lindenschmidt is coming off another solid season for head coach Emily Fletcher's Wildcats, competing in nine events for Northwestern with a 77.32 scoring average. She shot a personal-best even-par 72 in three different rounds while placing third at the Lady Buckeye Invitational, the highest finish of her collegiate career, and was a key figure in helping the Wildcats advance to the NCAA Central Regionals for the first time since 2007.

She has made her mark on the Northwestern record books as well, as her 77.87 career scoring average ranks sixth all-time in program history. Lindenschmidt, who is majoring in chemical engineering, is also a two-time NGCA All-American Scholar recipient and was named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2009 after notching a perfect 4.0 grade point average for the academic year.

The Academic All-America at-large program encompasses all sports not covered by their own dedicated awards process. Each school is allowed to nominate up to three male and three female student-athletes for the at-large award; student-athletes must be starters or important reserves, have a minimum 3.30 GPA and be sophomores athletically and academically to be eligible. Lindenschmidt now becomes a candidate for the Academic All-American of the Year in the At-Large category, which was won last year by former lacrosse All-American Hilary Bowen.
