EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern concludes the regular season this Friday and Saturday, May 14-15, with a series against No. 19 Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio. Both contests will be televised live on the Big Ten Network, with Friday's game beginning at 4 p.m. CT and Saturday's first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. CT.
The Wildcats enter the weekend in fourth place in the Big Ten standings with a 10-6 record, a half game ahead of Iowa's 10-7 mark. Northwestern has had two games rained out during the 20-game conference season while the Hawkeyes have experienced one washout. Ohio State has a 14-2 league mark, ranking second in the standings behind No. 2 Michigan's 16-1 record.
Northwestern is coming off a resounding Senior Day victory May 9 against Wisconsin at Sharon J. Drysdale Field. The Wildcats hit four home runs to run-rule the Badgers, 11-3 (6), with all four coming off the bats of members of the 2010 senior class. Nicole Pauly hit two of those bombs on her way to a career-best five RBI game, giving her 53 career homers. Kelly Dyer added a two-run shot to give herself 23 career blasts, while Emily Haug ended the game in run-rule fashion with a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth.
Prior to Sunday's game, Northwestern held its fourth-annual Purple Auction on Saturday night in Welsh-Ryan Arena. Organized in large part by senior Aly Euler as an aspect of a for-credit internship, the evening raised almost $25,000 for the Northwestern softball program while also honoring the members of the 2010 senior class (Lauren Delaney, Dyer, Euler, Haug and Pauly). That group has earned 148 wins together, inclusive of a third-place finish at the 2007 Women's College World Series and both the 2008 Big Ten regular-season and tourney titles.
