EVANSTON, Ill. -- After setting a personal-best with eight goals against eighth-ranked Vanderbilt Saturday, including seven in the first half, senior Danielle Spencer (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) has been named the American Lacrosse Conference Offensive Player of the Week. It is the first weekly honor of Spencer's career as she becomes the sixth different Wildcat to garner conference honors.
Spencer played a vital role in Northwestern's 27-9 victory over Vanderbilt Saturday night, which clinched the regular season conference title for the Wildcats and the top overall seed in next weekend's ALC Championship. Her eight goals is tied for the second-most in a single-game in program history as she also added an assist to finish with nine points on the night. Spencer also notched a team-best six draw controls as Northwestern won its 33rd-straight conference game.
One of the newest members of the Wildcat 200-point club, Spencer ranks eighth in program history with 216 points while checking in at seventh in goals (177) and 11th in assists (39). She has also emerged as one of the nation's top draw control threats, ranking fifth nationally averaging just under five per game while sitting fifth all-time in Northwestern history with 161.
Spencer joins fellow senior Katrina Dowd as the second Wildcat to be named the ALC's Offensive Player of the Week this season. Maggie Bremer, Brianne LoManto and Taylor Thornton have each been tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week this season with Thornton and Ali Cassera garnering Rookie of the Week honors as well.
Spencer and the rest of the Wildcats prepare for the final two regular season games this weekend at Lakeside Field, beginning with a showdown with fourth-ranked Virginia Friday, April 30, at 7 p.m. Northwestern then closes out the ALC season by hosting Florida at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 2.
