EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern heads to Columbus, Ohio, this weekend for the 30th annual Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational. It will be the final tune-up for head coach Emily Fletcher's Wildcats before next weekend's Big Ten Championships as nine of the 11 Big Ten schools will be represented at the Lady Buckeye.
Northwestern, ranked 38th in this week's Golfweek Sagarin rankings, is the fourth-highest ranked team in the 12-team field, trailing only No. 10 Michigan State, No. 21 Ohio State and No. 30 Kent State. Iowa State (No. 56), Minnesota (No. 57), Indiana (No. 58), Wisconsin (No. 61) and Illinois (No. 71) all place among the nation's top-100 with Iowa (No. 128), Penn State (No. 137) and Youngstown State (No. 170) rounding out the field.
The Scarlet Course at the Ohio State University Golf Club will serve as the host course for the 54-hole tournament, a par-72 measuring 6,275 yards. It will be a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. CT both days, with teams playing 36 holes Saturday before the final 18 on Sunday. Live scoring of the tournament will be available at Golfstat.com throughout the weekend.
Each team is allowed six competitors with four players' scores counting toward the team total. Freshman Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) leads the Wildcats with a 74.56 scoring average on the year and is coming off a 14th-place finish at the Bryan National Collegiate on April 4. She is followed closely by the sophomore duo of Alexandra Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) and Kylie Fuller (Temecula, Calif./Chapparal) as Lederhausen ranks second with a 75.85 average while Fuller checks in with a 76.04 average.
Junior Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) has seen significant playing time in the spring season, competing in six events for Northwestern with a 77.28 scoring average. Fellow junior Rebecca Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) makes her fifth appearance for the Wildcats with a 77.50 average while freshman Mei Liu (Austin, Texas/Lake Travis) will compete in her second collegiate event.
Northwestern looks to continue the momentum gained over the final two days of the Bryan National Collegiate as the Wildcats shot an even-par 288 over the final 18 holes, which was the low round of the day among the extremely competitive 18-team field and the second-lowest round total in program history. The 'Cats have finished among the top-10 as a team in six of their nine events this year and have historically fared well at the Lady Buckeye, placing fourth in 2009 as three different Wildcats finished among the top-20 individually.
