MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay -- Northwestern head coach Tracey Fuchs recently continued her career-long run of success in the international field hockey realm, serving as an assistant coach on the United States U-17 team that won the bronze medal at the 2010 Youth Pan American Cup in Uruguay. The Americans defeated Chile, 7-1, in the bronze medal match to finish the tournament with a 3-2 record.

The United States opened group play with an 11-0 blistering of Bermuda before falling in its next outing against Chile by a 2-0 score. After defeating host Uruguay 3-2 in the final game of group play, the U.S. lost a 3-1 decision to eventual champion Argentina to set up its rematch with Chile in the third-place game.

Prior to joining the U-17 team as an assistant this year, Fuchs spent five years in the role of head coach with the Junior National Team, guiding that squad to its first-ever gold medal at the Pan American Junior Championships in 2008. Fuchs, who in her first season at the helm at Northwestern guided the 'Cats to their highest win total since 1995, was named USA Field Hockey's Coach of the Year in 2005.

Shellie Onstead, the longtime head coach at the University of California, served as the head coach of the U-17 team, which was composed of youth players from eight states.
