EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern steps outside Big Ten play Wednesday as it travels to Rockford, Ill., to take on Northern Illinois in a neutral site game at Road Ranger Stadium. The facility is the home to the Rockford River Hawks of the independent Northern League. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.

The Wildcats (9-21, 3-3 Big Ten) are coming off a series win at Penn State over the weekend. NU won Friday's game 11-5 and Saturday's contest 3-2 in 11 innings before dropping Sunday's finale 6-5. Sophomore Paul Snieder led Northwestern at the plate, batting .571 (8-for-14) with two runs scored and three RBI. Snieder is batting a team-leading .390 with 17 multi-hit games to his credit.
Northern Illinois (11-19, 4-5 MAC) dropped two games of their three-game series at Miami (Ohio) last weekend, falling 6-1 and 5-1 before winning Sunday's finale, 5-4. Dave Reynolds leads all regulars with with .303 batting average, while Jordin Hood is batting .296 with team highs of seven doubles and six home runs.
Northwestern won last year's meeting with Northern Illinois 6-5 April 8 in Evanston on Jake Goebbert's two-run, walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth.
