EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat seniors David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) of the men's golf team and Katrina Dowd (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) of the women's lacrosse team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.
Lipsky finished in a tie for fourth place out of 63 players at the Kepler Invitational hosted by Ohio State this past weekend by shooting a 1-under 212 for the 54-hole tournament. On Saturday, Lipsky tied the tournament record low second-round score with a 4-under 67, helping him break the previous mark for lowest score through two rounds, also at 4-under. The Kepler is the third tournament this year Lipsky has finished under par.
Dowd scored eight total goals last week with four each in Northwestern's wins over No. 6 Penn and No. 18 Penn State. Dowd's goal late in the first half against the Quakers on Friday gave her 200 points in her career and the senior now has a team-leading 38 goals on the season. Dowd has scored exactly four goals in three consecutive contests.
This week's Community Service Athlete of the Week is senior Mark Ison (Powell, Ohio/Oletangy Liberty). Ison took a lead role in planning and running the Special Olympics event hosted by Northwestern Athletics at Welsh-Ryan Arena last Tuesday. Ison contacted various branches of Special Olympics to invite them to the event, which featured NU student-athletes serving as hearty fans and autograph seekers for 25 Special Olympics athletes competing in basketball, volleyball and other activities.
