EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern sophomore Adrienne Monka (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga) has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week following the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic for the second year in a row.
Monka batted .583 with a 1.417 slugging percentage and a .722 on-base percentage in Northwestern's five games in Las Vegas this year. She first helped NU to a 5-0 lead on No. 10 Georgia Tech with a 3-for-3 performance, driving in four and hitting a home run. She then recorded base knocks against both No. 13 Oklahoma and No. 12 California before launching a three-run home run in a win over UNLV and a solo shot against Utah. Monka also drew five walks on the weekend to bring her total on the year to 13.
The conference weekly honor is the third of Monka's career; she earned her first after the 2009 Desert Classic when she hit .571 with a 1.571 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base percentage. She hit four home runs that weekend, which makes her career homer total in Vegas seven in 10 games played.
