EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern returns to the links in arguably its most challenging tournament to date. The Wildcats, ranked 37th in this week's Golfweek Sagarin rankings, head to Parrish, Fla., competing in the 2010 Central District Invitational on Monday, Feb. 22 and Tuesday, Feb. 23.

The 54-hole tournament, hosted by Michigan State, will be held at the River Wilderness Country Club, a par-72, 6,099-yard course. Teams will compete in the opening two rounds on Monday morning, with the final 18 holes scheduled for Tuesday.

The 15-team field is comprised of some of the top programs in the country, with 13 boasting top-50 rankings including seven top-25 clubs. Fourth-ranked Purdue is the highest-ranked team in the field, followed by the 10th-ranked Spartans, 16th-ranked Texas A&M, 17th-ranked Florida, 18th-ranked LSU, 23rd-ranked South Carolina and 24th-ranked Ohio State. Kent State (No. 31), TCU (No. 34), Arkansas (No. 38), Notre Dame (No. 40) and Texas (No. 41) join Northwestern among the top-50 with Michigan (No. 68) and Missouri (No. 69) rounding out the field.

Northwestern returns to the Central District Invitational after missing the tournament in 2009. The Wildcats, who won the inaugural tournament in 2000, placed 13th in 2008 led by junior Rebecca Lederhausen's (Hinsdale, Ill./Central)18th-place finish, which also included the program's third hole-in-one on the par-three fifth hole.

The Wildcats are coming off a sixth-place showing at the 2010 Lady Puerto Rico Classic, Northwestern's fifth top-10 team finish of the season. Freshman Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) leads the squad with a 73.78 scoring average and a pair of top-10 finishes, with sophomore Alexandra Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) averaging 75.11 per round with three top-20 finishes.

Live scoring of the event will be available at Golfstat.com throughout the weekend.
