EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head fencing coach Laurie Schiller recently became just the second fencing coach to reach 1,000 career victories, and the accomplishment has not gone unnoticed. Schiller appears in the Feb. 15 issue of Sports Illustrated Faces in the Crowd section, the same issue that celebrates the New Orleans Saints' Super Bowl victory.

Entering the 2009-10 season, Schiller needed just 11 victories to reach the career milestone, with the win coming in a dramatic come-from-behind decision over fourth-ranked Columbia at the NYU Duals on Jan. 23. With one dual meet remaining on the season, fifth-ranked Northwestern is 33-4 on the year with Schiller now boasting a career mark of 1,022-416.

Schiller and the Wildcats head to Memphis, Tenn., this weekend to compete in the USFA National Junior Olympics, taking place Friday, Feb. 12 through Monday, Feb. 15. Northwestern's final dual meet of the season will take place at Patten Gymnasium on Saturday, Feb. 20 and Sunday, Feb 21. It will be the final tune-up for Schiller and the 'Cats before the Midwest Conference Championships in South Bend, Ind., the first weekend in March.
