EVANSTON, Ill. -- Relatively untested through its first three matches, second-ranked Northwestern is ready to take things to another level when it hosts No. 21 Florida State at 11 a.m. Sunday in the Combe Tennis Center. Both teams are among 16 squads in the country that are fine-tuning their games for the ITA National Indoor Team Championship, which begins Feb. 12 in Madison, Wis.
All home Northwestern tennis matches are free for all fans and feature doubles play beginning at 11 a.m. followed by singles at approximately 12:15 p.m. Live online scoring for the match is available by clicking here.
These two teams saw each during the individual fall season at the season-opening Furman Fall Classic. Maria Mosolova and Samantha Murray each posted wins against their Seminole opponents but FSU did win four singles contests against Wildcat players.
Early Season Splendors
As has become its custom, Northwestern is off to a fast start in its 2010 dual season, with six different players posting 2-0 singles records through NU's first three dual matches. Bringing doubles into the fold, Brittany Wowchuk, Samantha Murray and Kate Turvy have all yet to endure defeat in either singles or doubles.
Scouting the Seminoles
Florida State comes to Evanston riding high following a pair of big victories last weekend that sent the Seminoles into the round of 16 of the ITA National Indoor Team Championship for the first time in program history. Florida State traveled across the country to host site Fresno State and took on No. 38 Ohio State on Sunday after the Buckeyes upset the host Bulldogs in the opening round. The Seminoles in turn ousted Ohio State 6-1 despite missing their top player in No. 23 Noemie Scharle, securing a trip to Madison next weekend.
Before arriving in Evanston, FSU faced the second of its three consecutive Big Ten opponents with a tight 4-3 win at Illinois on Friday. The dual came down to the final match with Lauren McCreless defeating the Illini's Rachael White in three sets at the No. 1 singles spot. NU has won all five all-time meetings with Florida State.
