EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's men's and women's swimming teams return to the competitive pool together to begin the winter quarter with a combined dual meet at 12:30 p.m. CT, Saturday, Jan. 9, at Notre Dame.

The men spent their holiday break working out at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The women went 4-0 in a dual competition at Florida Atlantic while training in Boca Raton, Fla. NU's women's team now is 6-2 on the season while the men enter Saturday's competition at 1-3.
The Wildcat women enter this weekend ranked No. 23 in the most recent College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll. Both of Notre Dame's squads are receiving votes in those rankings.
Northwestern's women enter the final month of dual meets with five individual NCAA `B' provisional qualifying standards earned by three different swimmers, and with consideration times in every relay save for the 400 medley. Emily Wong (Nepean, Ontario/St. Joseph's) leads the way with `B' cuts in all three sprint free events while Kassia Shishkoff (Raleigh, N.C./St. David's School) (200 free) and Jenny Wilson (Bethesda, Md./Sidwell Friends School) (200 breast) also have provisional standards.
Notre Dame's women are led by Kim Holden, who boasts NCAA `B' cuts in both backstrokes. Samantha Maxwell (100 breast) and Katie Casey (200 fly) each have `B' standards of their own to account for all of the Irish's NCAA individual time standards.
On the men's side, Northwestern hopes to counter a deep Notre Dame team with greater top-end speed. Charlie Rimkus (Tustin, Calif./Beckman), Alex Tyler (Birmingham, Mich./Birmingham Groves) and Sean Mathews (St. Louis, Mo./Lafayette) have combined for five individual NCAA `B' times at the season's halfway point. Rimkus has one each in the 1,650 free and the 400 IM, Tyler boasts provisional times in both individual medleys and Mathews' cut came in the 200 fly.
Notre Dame has just two provisional cut times this year, with Petar Petrovic having `B' stuff in the 100 back and MacKenzie LeBlanc having an under `B' time in the 200 fly.
