NU's 2010 Recruiting Class Deemed No. 2 in the Nation

Dec. 1, 2009

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's recently announced 2010 freshman recruiting class was ranked as the No. 2 class in the nation during the early signing period by both InterMat and WIN Magazine. The group includes six wrestlers ranked in the top 10 nationally at their respective weight classes.

Two-time defending national champion Iowa garnered the No. 1 overall recruiting class ranking in both polls. Traditional powers Iowa State, Penn State and Cornell checked in behind Northwestern to round out InterMat's list of top five classes. InterMat's complete recruiting rankings are available by clicking here.

Included in NU's incoming class are: Lee Munster (No. 3 at 189); Colin Shober (No. 6 at 145); Pierce Harger (No. 11 at 152); Kaleb Friedley (No. 8 at 140); Michael McMullan (No. 6 at 285); Alex Polizzi (No. 6 at 215); and Pat Greco (HM at 141). InterMat's assessment of Northwestern's successful signing period is as follows:

"This class basically restocks (Northwestern's) roster at all but the opening two weight classes. More important, the Wildcats have procured high quality wrestlers to fill their needs. The best recruiting class in school history will seek to elevate the Northwestern program to new heights--ones basically thought to be impossible before Ryan Lang, Dustin Fox, and Jake Herbert stepped on campus just over five years ago."

Northwestern continues its 2009-10 dual season on Thursday, Dec. 17, when it travels to face Cleveland State in its third consecutive road match.
