Box Score

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern held Penn to just 16 first-half points en route to a 61-39 victory in the fourth and final game of the DoubleTree White Invitational Saturday evening. Nine Wildcats found the scoring column, led by freshman Kendall Hackney (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) who tied a career-high with 13 points and seven rebounds. Allison Mocchi (Wheeling, Ill./Buffalo Grove), Amy Jaeschke (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) and Dannielle Diamant (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) each added eight points to the winning effort.

Jaeschke wasted little time finding the scoring column, opening the game with a lay-in just eight seconds into the action. The junior went on to tally six of NU's first 10 points of the half. Northwestern's defense held Penn scoreless for four minutes while stringing together four-consecutive baskets to set the score at 16-7 with 11:36 on the clock.

Back-to-back triples from Ali Mocchi gave the Wildcats their largest lead of the game--a 24-10--advantage with 10 minutes remaining. Prior to that, Northwestern scored all of its field goals in the paint.

The Wildcats continued to build their lead, outscoring Penn 9-4 over the next seven minutes to take a 33-14 advantage. Penn scored the only bucket in the final 3:10 to set the halftime score at 33-16. Jaeschke and Allison Mocchi led all scores with eight points at the break.

Kristin Cartwright (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) kicked off the second-half scoring with a layup on the first possession, which sparked a 7-2 Wildcat run to pull the score to 40-18.

Northwestern continued to keep Penn at bay the rest of the way, claiming their fifth victory of the season. The Wildcats converted 21 Penn miscues into 25 points.
