EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern returns home this weekend for a pair of meets, beginning at 5 p.m. CT Friday, Nov. 13, against Wisconsin and concluding at 1 p.m. CT Saturday, Nov. 14, versus Illinois-Chicago at the Norris Aquatics Center. Both competitions are combined meets with the Wildcat women's squad.
The Wildcats are 0-2 so far on the young season, falling to both Indiana and Purdue, but have not been without strong performances. Junior Sean Mathews (St. Louis, Mo./Lafayette) is undefeated in the butterfly events, going 4-for-4 in both meets. Classmate Alex Tyler (Birmingham, Mich./Birmingham Groves) is similarly undefeated in his specialty, the breaststroke.
Mathews currently is ranked 12th in the nation in the 200 fly and 25th in the 100 fly according to collegeswimming.com. Tyler is not ranked in the top 40 in the breaststrokes, but is 18th in the 400 IM and 17th in the 200 IM. Freshman Charlie Rimkus (Tustin, Calif./Beckman) is rated 34th in both the 500 free and 1,000 free following the first two meets of his collegiate career.
Northwestern fell to Wisconsin a year ago but defeated Illinois-Chicago during a double-dual with UIC and the University of Chicago. This weekend's meets provide a lead in to the TYR Invitational, which will be held Nov. 20-22 at the Norris Aquatic Center.
