KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Northwestern finished competition at the Junior North American Cup Monday, with a number of Wildcats having impressive performances, highlighted by three top-20 finishes.
Perhaps the strongest weapon on the weekend for Northwestern was the women's foil, which was led by sophomore Devynn Patterson's (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) eighth-place finish among 122 competitors. Freshman Dayana Sarkisova (Grand Rapids, Mich,/Forest Hills Central) also placed among the top-20, finishing 19th, with sophomore Camille Provencal (St. Paul, Minn./Central) placing 25th.
Among the 142 participants in the women's epée, it was freshman Kate Cavanaugh (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet) with the top performance for the Wildcats, placing 13th. Freshman teammate Kendrick Mooney (Arcadia, Calif./Arcadia) notched a 33rd-place finish with fellow freshman Karalina Collins (Houston, Texas/Waltrip) tying for 56th).
Freshman Chloe Grainger (Decatur, Ga./Decatur) was the lone Northwestern representative in the women's sabre, finishing 28th out of 88 competitors.
Northwestern now begins on the dual meet portion of its 2009-10 schedule, heading to the west coast for the Stanford Duals on Saturday, Nov. 14. Head coach Laurie Schiller looks to inch closer to notching his 1,000th career coaching victory, entering the weekend with an overall record of 989-412.
