Four Wildcats Qualify For USFA National Junior Olympics in February

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Four Wildcats qualified for the USFA National Junior Olympics Sunday, earning their bids at the Illinois Junior Olympic Qualifier at Patten Gymnasium. The 2010 USFA National Junior Olympics will take place February 12-15 in Memphis, Tenn.

Sophomore Becky Grohman and freshman Emily Bruhl finished one-two in the women's foil, with freshman Madeline Sachs finishing third in the women's epée and sophomore Annelise Eeeman placing second in the women's sabre.

With the four additions, Northwestern will send a total of 13 fencers to the Junior Olympics. Grohman and Bruhl join sophomores Devynn Patterson and Camille Provencal and freshman Dayana Sarkisova in the foil, Sachs teams up with fellow freshmen Madeline Amos, Karalina Collins, Kendrick Mooney and Kate Cavanaugh in the epée with Eeman and freshmen Chloe Grainger and Alicia Gurrieri representing the sabre.

Northwestern now prepares for the Junior North American Cup in Kansas City, Mo., on Nov. 6-9. The Wildcats then commence on the 2009-10 dual meet portion of it schedule, traveling to Palo Alto, Calif., for the Stanford Duals on Saturday, Nov. 14.
