2009 Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown Second Round Results
BOULDER CITY, Nev. -- Northwestern clawed its way three spots up the leaderboard at the 2009 Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown and are now 11th heading into the final round of competition Wednesday. NU, which began the day in a tie for 14th, shot a 16-over 304 and is within two shots of cracking into the top-10.
Sophomore Kylie Fuller (Temecula, Calif./Chapparal) continues her solid play in the desert, shooting a 2-over 74 on the afternoon to sit at 3-over 147 through the first 36 holes and enters the final day tied for 15th place individually. Fuller is two shots better than freshman teammate Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows), who sits at 5-over 149 after the opening two rounds with a 3-over 75 on the day and is tied for 29th overall.
Junior Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) sits third on the Northwestern scorecard, finishing with a 5-over 77 to sit at 9-over 153 heading into Wednesday final round. Lindenschmidt is one stroke better than sophomore Alexandra Lederhausen's (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) 10-over 154 (76-78) and five shots ahead of fellow junior Innapha Tantanavivat's (Bangkok, Thailand/David Leadbetter Academy) 14-over 158 (76-82).
Scores were up across the board for the second round of the Las Vegas Collegiate, with only four schools notching sub-300 scores compared to the 15 rounds on day one. The Wildcats hold a three-shot lead on host UNLV in 12th place, and trail 10th-place Idaho by just two shots. Northwestern remains within striking distance of a handful of teams, trailing ninth-place Colorado State by five strokes and eighth-place TCU by seven.
Arizona enters the final round at 2-over 578, leading second-place Washington (3-over 579) by one shot and third-place UC Davis (6-over 582) by four. Florida (10-over 586) is fourth, while first-round leader Louisville (11-over 587) slipped back to fifth in round two. Kent State and Arkansas join TCU, Colorado State and Idaho to round out the top-10.
