CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Northwestern sent six runners downstate Friday to compete in the Illini Open hosted by Illinois, where freshman Ashley Greenwell led NU by finishing the 5K race in exactly 20:00. Greenwell placed 15th overall.
As a team, NU finished third behind host Illinois and Illinois State.
After Greenwell, fellow freshman Angie Henry crossed next for the Wildcats, placing 16th in a time of 20:25. Kaley Stroup also gained valuable meet experience, finishing 18th in 20:33.

Northwestern's top runners will be back in action next Sunday, Nov. 1, when the 'Cats join the rest of the Big Ten at the conference championships on the campus of Penn State.
