EVANSTON, Ill. -- For the third consecutive year, the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) has donated $10,000 to the Randy Walker Memorial Fund. Mike Taylor, representing the AFCA, and Dennis Grapenthin, chairman of the Randy Walker Power of Influence Golf Outing, made the presentation to Tammy Walker, wife of the former NU head coach, and Pat Fitzgerald, the Wildcats' head coach, today (Monday, Oct. 5) at the Nicolet Football Center.
The Walker Memorial Fund helps support the Randy Walker recruiting assistant staff position in the football office.
This past summer, the AFCA hosted the fourth annual Randy Walker Power of Influence Golf Outing, a charity golf event that helps raise funds for the American Football Coaches' Foundation. The Foundation was established in 1998 to fund its education mission. Contributions generated by The Foundation ensure that the coaching community will continue to have the finest possible professional development and educational tools ... now and in the future. These tools will be accessible and affordable to coaches from high schools, colleges, and universities -- small and large, rich and poor, big city or small town, and everything in-between.
Walker served as Northwestern's head coach from 1999 through 2005 before his untimely death in June of 2006. The Wildcats are taking on Walker's alma mater, Miami University, this Saturday at Ryan Field.
