Wildcats Place 12th at Elite Roy Griak Invitational

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Northwestern took part in the 24th annual Roy Griak Invitational hosted by Minnesota Saturday and came away with a 12th-place showing in the Jack Johnson Women's Gold 6K race. Freshman Audrey Huth led the Wildcat finishers for the first time in her career, crossing 36th overall with a time of 23:10.

Sophomore Hallie Busta enjoyed her third straight solid performance, placing second among Wildcats and 48th overall in a field of 193 runners with a time of 23:35. Just one second behind Busta was senior Paulina Garcia in 49th place, while sophomore Rachel Kaminski finished fourth on the NU squad with a time of 24 minutes flat.

In the team standings, Iowa State managed to top defending champion and host Minnesota by winning with the low score of 31. The Gophers' Megan Duwell won the women's individual title by crossing in 21:01.

Rounding out Northwestern's scorers at the Griak were sophomore Rachel Edwards (24:51), freshman Lauren Neuschel (25:09) and senior Britta Helwig (25:09).

NU also sent a field of competitors to the Forester Invitational Saturday at Lake Forest College. The 'Cats were paced in that meet by freshman Janelle Li-A-Ping, who covered the 5K course in 20:10 to place 15th overall. Freshman Ashley Greenwell took 20th (20:26) while Kaley Stroup took 22nd in 20:27. As a group, NU claimed third at the meet.

The Wildcats are back in action on Saturday when they compete in the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational in Chicago at 11:45 a.m. NU is trying to defend its team championship it claimed at the event one year ago.
