EVANSTON, Ill. -- Coming off two wins and a tough battle against the defending NCAA champion to start the season, Northwestern makes its initial road trip of 2009 this weekend to face Yale and Sacred Heart in New Haven, Conn. Northwestern is a combined 3-0 all-time against the Bulldogs and Pioneers.
Schedule:
Saturday, Sept. 5 at Yale 1 p.m. Johnson Field Gametracker
Sunday, Sept. 6 vs. Sacred Heart 11 a.m. Johnson Field (Yale)
Yale will be opening its 2009 campaign against NU while Sacred Heart has dropped both games it played this season. Last year, Northwestern hosted Sacred Heart at Lakeside Field and came away with an 8-0 victory.
NU's season got off to a thrilling start in the Wildcat Classic as the 'Cats won consecutive games in overtime for the first time since 2005. Chelsea Armstrong (Perth, Australia/Penrhos), who has the early conference lead in goals (4) and points (8) and was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, notched the game-winning goal against Boston University on Friday while Courtney Plaster-Strange (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) ended NU's game against Ohio the following day.
Northwestern now owns an 8-4 record in its last 12 overtime games dating to 2005.
Two Wildcats will be heading close to home when NU visits Connecticut this weekend. Senior Stacy Uchida and sophomore Jaimie Orrico both hail from Southbury, Conn.,--just over 20 miles from Yale's campus in New Haven--and were high school teammates playing for Pomperaug High School. Sacred Heart sophomore Alex Melillo also played her high school hockey for the Panthers.
