Moment No. 5: Northwestern Plays in the Valero Alamo Bowl

The 2008-09 athletic year at Northwestern University was one to be remembered. Filled with a plethora of memorable wins, honors and championships, there was much to be celebrated this past year in Evanston. EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Northwestern top-15 moments of 2008-09 countdown enters the top five today with the Wildcats' berth in the 2008 Valero Alamo Bowl. After achieving its third nine-win season since 1995, Northwestern accepted a bid to the contest played during the Monday Night Football time slot on ESPN.

Wildcat faithful and their purple colors were everywhere during the month of December, culminating in a thrilling overtime Alamo Bowl contest that was the No. 10-most watched bowl game in ESPN history. The bowl was NU's sixth since 1995 and the first in head coach Pat Fitzgerald's three-year tenure.
