Big Ten Network to Re-air Northwestern Day July 8

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern fans who missed out on the Big Ten Network's first offering of day-long coverage of the Wildcats will have another opportunity to get their Purple fix Wednesday, July 8.

Classic victories from the series The Big Ten's Greatest Games featuring the Wildcats will air throughout the day. The 2007 football overtime victory against Michigan State, in which quarterback C.J. Bacher set single-game school records for touchdown passes and passing yards, will air at 9 a.m. CT. At 5 p.m., the network will air Northwestern's 1995 victory over Penn State, which helped clinch the Wildcats' first Big Ten title in 59 years and a trip to the Rose Bowl.

In May, the Northwestern women's tennis team won its 11th-straight Big Ten title, and coverage of the tournament run will air at 7 p.m.

The heart-warming documentary, Friends of Jaclyn, will air at 9 p.m. The Emmy-nominated piece, narrated by Northwestern graduate Ann Kreiter, chronicles the unique friendship between the Northwestern lacrosse team and 10-year old cancer survivor Jaclyn Murphy.

The day of Northwestern programming is the second of three days dedicated to Wildcats athletics and campus programming that will air this summer. Each university will have three days of dedicated programming on the network during the next two months.

Men's Basketball: Northwestern 75, Iowa 74 (OT) (1/26/05)
Northwestern trailed by 12 late in the second half, but Vedran Vukusic, playing despite a sore shoulder, scored 13 points in the final two minutes of regulation. Michael Jenkins' three-pointer at the overtime buzzer hit the rim, bounced high and fell through to give Northwestern a stunning victory over No. 23 Iowa.

Big Ten Short Stories - 7 a.m.
The Wildcat-centric episode features head women's basketball coach Joe McKeown, a special on former professional tennis player Katrina Adams, figure skater Debi Thomas and Black History Month, and a conversation with former football head coach Gary Barnett.

Trailing three runs in the top of the sixth, Iowa stormed back against No. 10 Northwestern to take a 5-4 lead. The game eventually headed to extra innings. In the bottom of the ninth, Northwestern pinch hitter Emily Haug belted a walk-off single scoring Aly Euler to give the Wildcats a huge victory and keep their Big Ten title hopes alive.

Football: Northwestern 21, Penn State 10 (11/4/95)
During an incredible "Cinderella" regular season, linebacker Pat Fitzgerald led Northwestern to its first Big Ten title in 59 years by beating Penn State. The season's motto, "Expect Victory," was fulfilled as the team went on to compete in the Rose Bowl.

2009 Big Ten Championship
The Wildcats won their 11th-straight conference title, beating Minnesota, Ohio State and Michigan on the way to the championship.

Kevin Coble scored 31 points as Northwestern ended MSU's 28-game home-court win streak with a huge upset. An 18-7 turnover margin, Northwestern's three-point shooting and suffocating zone defense delivered the victory over the Final Four-bound Spartans.

This wild game yielded nearly 1,200 yards of combined offense and the last score was notched when Wildcat Sam Simmons caught an 11-yard pass with only 20 seconds left. The Wolverines had another chance, but the botched field goal sealed their fate.
