Tammy Williams Named to USA Softball Pan American Qualifier Team

June 15, 2009

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern graduate Tammy Williams has been named to the USA Softball Pan American Qualifier team that will compete August 4-11 in Guadalajara, Mexico. Williams is one of 17 members chosen for the team following the Women's National Team selection camp last week in Chula Vista, Calif.

Williams, who just finished work on her Northwestern degree in human development and psychological services, was one of four finalists for the Honda Softball Award, one of 10 finalists for USA Softball Player of the Year, an NFCA All-America first-team selection for the third-straight year, a Lowe's All-Senior All-America first-team honoree and the Big Ten Player of the Year in 2009. In addition to her well-known offensive prowess, Williams committed only six errors in 172 chances and helped NU throw out 50 percent of would-be base stealers in her senior year.

Williams has continued her strong play following the completion of her collegiate career, dominating the professional ranks early on in her rookie season. Williams currently leads National Pro Fastpitch with a .467 batting average (7-for-15), a 1.333 slugging percentage and four home runs in five games played for the Chicago Bandits. She also ranks second in the league with nine RBIs despite playing in only five of the team's 10 games after missing time to attend the selection camp and finish her final exams at Northwestern.
