EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat senior Morgan Lathrop (Briarcliff, N.Y./The Hackley School) of the women's lacrosse team and freshman Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School) of the men's golf team have been named Northwestern's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.
Lathrop became Northwestern's all-time saves leader in the title game of the American Lacrosse Conference Tournament on Saturday against Penn State. Lathrop, who stopped six shots against Vanderbilt on Friday, made five saves against the Nittany Lions to up her career total to 529, surpassing former Wildcat Ashley Gersuk's total of 526. The three goals allowed by Lathrop in the final marked the second-fewest she has given up this season.
Chun was the lone competitor to finish below par at the 2009 Big Ten Championships, capturing the individual title with a 72-hole total of 1-under 283 (70-68-71-74). In winning the first tournament of his career, he becomes the ninth player in school history to claim the Big Ten championship. Chun is the first freshman to win Big Ten medalist honors since PGA Tour veteran Steve Stricker of Illinois did so in 1986.
This week's Community Service Athletes of the Week are the members of men's swimming and diving team, who on Saturday, April 25, participated in the 2009 Walk for Randy prior to the spring football game. The student-athletes were among the nearly 200 participants who came out this year to support the cause and remember Coach Walker.
