The Dyer Blog :: Blog Entry #14

April 2, 2009

Hello `Cats!

Spring Break 2009 is officially over and my last quarter of college has begun. Basically, it is the beginning of the end for me. As I write, I am trying not to cry! Seriously though, I'm a crier. I cannot believe how fast the last four years have gone, and still I do not believe it is really going to end. Before I really start crying, I won't get too far into all that! We'll save that for the last few Dyer blogs. So like I said, since Spring Break ended, the start of spring quarter has begun. I am currently enrolled in three classes, one of which is Basic Painting, which is AWESOME! It is three hours twice a week, full of nothing but painting. It is definitely relaxing and a total change of pace from the ordinary classroom. My class schedule is great and I am really looking forward to my last quarter of classes as a college student!

This week has also been interesting for the team because of the change in our Big Ten schedule. Our Big Ten game schedule has changed from playing 4 games in a weekend vs. two different teams to now only playing one team. We get all of our games in because we have added a few mid-week double headers as well. The new schedule is a little more difficult because of the mid-week games, but there are definitely benefits. Our weekends are much more relaxed; with only two games versus four which give us more rest as well as a chance to attend more of our classes.

This week we had our first mid-week match-up against Michigan State. The day was a bit strange because I was in painting class all morning trying to paint a still life of vases and jars when all I could think about was our double header that afternoon. After class I rushed over to the stadium where I proceeded to shove a meatball sandwich down before heading over to our pregame hitting. I feel like no matter how many times I eat too fast and decide I'll NEVER do that again, I somehow find a way to do it just one more time! So, I think I learned that I'll probably bring a snack to eat while I paint next time so I don't have to eat so fast!

Our double header vs. Michigan State started out a little slow, but our bats really pulled through to pull out a big win. With the start of our second game the wind at the "J" was outrageous! I mean, fly balls were hit to left center and ended up in right field...no joke. Every flag in the place was blowing in a different direction! Even with the crazy wind, our offense came up huge while Delaney pitched another good game to get the second win of the day. Also I would just like to say that Tammy Williams and Kelly Dyer ended both games in run-rule fashion with walk-off home-runs which was probably the highlight of the day! YEEEAH Cats!

This weekend we face off against Indiana on Saturday and Sunday. However, we are supposed to get some bad weather come Sunday so there is a possibility of a Saturday double header. Stay tuned to our Web site to see any change in schedule. Also, and probably most important, this weekend features a tribute to Jessica Rigas and Erin Dyer (Me!) as seniors!! If you get there early enough you can get trading cards of our beautiful faces to add to the top of any trading card collection!

I'll see you all this weekend! Go `Cats!
