Wildcats Look To Continue Strong Play at SunTrust Lady Gator

April 5, 2009

EVANSTON, Ill. -- After putting together its strongest outing of the season last weekend at the Mountain View Collegiate, Northwestern looks to continue its strong play against arguably the toughest field it will face all season. The Wildcats head south to Gainesville, Fla., to compete in the SunTrust Lady Gator Monday, April 6, through Tuesday, April 7. This is the first time NU will compete in the tournament.

Hosted by the University of Florida, the 54-hole tournament is being played at the Mark Bostic Golf Course in Gainesville, a par-70 5,954 yard course that is home to the Lady Gator golf team. Play gets underway at 7:30 a.m. Central both days, with the first 36 holes being played on Monday and the final 18 getting underway Tuesday.

The 16-team field is arguably the toughest the Wildcats will face this season, as Auburn (No. 6), Alabama (No. 7) and Duke (No. 10) all boast top-10 rankings on this week's Golfweek Sagarin Ratings. Six others boast top-50 rankings, including the host Gators (No. 32), Georgia State (No. 36), Washington (No. 43), Furman (No. 44), Florida State (No. 48) and Florida International (No. 50). Brigham Young (No. 68), Campbell (No. 60), Coastal Carolina (No. 98), Florida Atlantic (No. 122), South Florida (No. 75) and Georgetown (No. 117) round out the field.

Northwestern is coming off a sixth-place finish at the Mountain View Collegiate this past weekend, including notching a season best 292 over the final round. Senior Jennifer Hong (Windermere, Fla./The First Academy) shot a pair of 70s en route to a 1-under 215, finishing in a tie for fifth. She currently ranks second on the team in stroke average at 77.71, just shy of sophomore Kelsey Lindenschmidt's (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) 77.50 and edging out sophomore Innapha Tantanavivat's (Bangkok, Thailand/David Leadbetter Academy) 77.88. Freshmen Alexandra Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and Kylie Fuller (Temecula, Calif./Chapparal) round out the Northwestern scorecard for the tournament.
