EVANSTON, Ill. -- Senior Tammy Williams (Roscoe, Mo./Osceola) has been named one of 25 finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award, announced today (April 1) by the Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA).
Williams has been a top-25 finalist for the award in each of the last three seasons, making the top-10 finalist list in 2008. She currently is batting .506 on the season with a .910 slugging percentage, a .560 on-base percentage, nine home runs and 32 runs scored in 27 games. She ranks among the nation's leaders in all five of those statistical categories.
The USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award, which is considered the most prestigious honors in Division I women's collegiate softball, is designed to recognize outstanding athletic achievement by female collegiate softball players across the country. Just days before the start of post-season play, a list of 10 finalists will be named and released on May 6. The three finalists will be announced May 20 while the winner of the 2009 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award will be announced prior to the start of the 2009 NCAA Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.
