EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's football team continues to raise the bar on the field, posting a 9-3 regular-season mark last season, but Northwestern's Athletic Department won't be increasing ticket prices. Already one of the best values in the Big Ten, the Wildcats announced today they will hold the line on all ticket prices for the 2009 season while creating two extremely attractive discounted season ticket options.
"We spent the past couple months taking a close strategic look at how we could enhance our season ticket package for all Northwestern fans," said Jim Phillips, Northwestern's director of athletics and recreation. "To be certain, we were very cognizant of the challenging economic times that people are facing. In addition to maintaining our sideline reserved season ticket prices from a year ago, we are instituting another lower-priced option for fans to enjoy Northwestern football. Another tremendous bonus is that our season ticket holders will receive 10 free tickets to other Wildcat sporting events."
This year, Northwestern created new low-price ticket options for fans sitting in the corner end zone and fans who are under the age of 18. In addition, the 'Cats will continue to add more value for their loyal season ticket buyers with new benefits that include a copy of the 2008 Commemorative DVD which highlights the 'Cats journey to the Alamo Bowl and free tickets to Wildcat home events.
Each season ticket holder will receive free tickets to one nonconference football game, two nonconference men's basketball games, three women's basketball games and four volleyball matches, which is a $114 value. As in the past, all season ticket holders will still be eligible to purchase parking, lease a Wildcat seatback, have access to postseason tickets and be invited to special events with the 'Cats throughout the year.
Northwestern's family plan, which includes two adult tickets and three children tickets (under the age of 18), is $420 for all seven home games. That equates to $12 per person a game.
"We are confident that this season ticket plan makes Northwestern football one of the best entertainment values in Chicago," said Phillips.
Plus, all fans who purchase season tickets before April 25 will be entered to win two spots on the Chicago Classic Coach bus for the day trip to South Bend for Coach Fitzgerald's Hall of Fame Enshrinement celebration on Saturday, July 18.
"We're excited about the progress of our football program and we encourage all our Wildcat fans to join us this fall for another thrilling season at Ryan Field," said NU football coach Pat Fitzgerald. "Our fans make a huge difference for us and getting to play seven of our 12 regular-season games at home is exciting for everyone who bleeds purple."
The 'Cats are getting ready for the season, having opened spring drills today, so make sure you are ready for the fall by purchasing your season tickets now. Northwestern, which is coming off its sixth bowl appearance since 1995, has won six or more games in eight of the last 14 seasons.
